Prince Harry’s African charity suspended by Chad: Latest blow pertains to allegations of mismanagement

Following his resignation from Sentebale in March, another one of Prince Harry’s charities operating out of Africa has been hit with a brutal knock.

The charity, which was founded in 2000 and counted the Duke of Sussex as its president between 2017 and 2023 before he joined the board, has been labelled “disrespectful” in an official release by Chad’s environment ministry.

Environment Minister Hassan Bakhit Djamous cited the organisation’s “recurring, indelicate, and disrespectful attitude towards the government” in the four-page document.

Furthermore, the decision has been made in view of the charity’s disingenuous practices in the region — Djamous claimed that the anti-poaching duties of African Parks have been neglected, as Chad is currently experiencing a rise in illegal hunting instead.

While The Telegraph also reported that earlier during the year, “an independent investigation found that African Parks staff had beaten, raped, and tortured indigenous Baka people in the Republic of the Congo.”

The organisation, where Prince Harry is a member of the board of directors, has addressed the latest development in a detailed statement — “African Parks confirms that on October 6, 2025, it received official correspondence from Mr. Hassan Bakhit Djamous, the Minister of Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of Chad, informing the organisation of the Government of Chad’s unilateral decision to terminate the two management mandates it has with African Parks,” the message partly revealed. While it was further shared that the charity has “initiated discussions with the Ministry” to settle the accompanying matters.
