In a major step toward a more tech-driven Olympics, Google has announced a multi-year partnership with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA28), becoming the event’s official cloud provider and a founding partner.

The partnership was revealed on Google’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, followed by CEO Sundar Pichai, who expressed excitement for the collaboration and even mentioned his anticipation for “Olympic cricket.”

“Excited for this partnership w/ @LA28, @TeamUSA, @NBCUniversal- and equally excited for Olympic cricket!” Pichai noted.

As a part of the collaboration, Google Cloud will handle critical backend operations, from managing logistics and planning to coordinating a 70,000-strong volunteer team.

Moreover, Google’s cutting-edge AI tools, including Gemini and AI Mode, will be integrated to enhance the fan experience both on-site and online.

During the Games, Google will use Search and Gemini to deliver more personalised, real-time updates, allowing fans to find scores, schedules, and athlete information instantly.

NBCUniversal, the US broadcaster of the event, will also incorporate Google’s AI into its coverage, with short-form highlights shared on YouTube.

Google is also extending its AI expertise to Team USA, helping athletes analyse performance data and optimise training through cloud-based analytics.

“With tools like Gemini and AI Mode, Google will help fans and athletes connect like never before,” Google’s vice president of marketing Marvin Chow stated.
