Harry, Meghan vs William, Kate: Who truly deserves the humanitarian crown?
William and Kate deserve Harry and Meghan’s Humanitarian Award, critics says

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are under fire after receiving the “Humanitarians of the Year” award at Project Healthy Minds’ World Mental Health Day Gala.
While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrated the recognition, critics, including royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, argue that Prince William and Princess Kate are the true competitors for such an honour.
Here’s a closer look at the controversy and why many believe the Waleses are more deserving:
1. The irony behind the award
According to GB News, Fitzwilliams pointed out the “deep irony” in the Sussexes being honoured for humanitarian work.
He remarked, “If you were looking at genuine humanitarian work, it is surely the Prince and Princess of Wales with their work for Heads Together, the initiative from the Royal Foundation, who ought to be considered.”
Heads Together has long been recognized for breaking mental health taboos and providing tangible support, something critics say embodies true humanitarianism.
2. William’s emotional commitment to mental health
Fitzwilliams highlighted Prince William’s efforts and his role in launching The Royal Foundation’s National Suicide Prevention Network.
“William is especially concerned with the stigma which still surrounds mental health,” he said, adding, “He broke down discussing suicide with a grieving widow in a new video, which has moved the nation.”
The emotional moment, which went viral, highlighted William’s deep empathy and hands on involvement in crucial social issues.
3. Kate’s thoughtful advocacy for children
Kate Middleton’s essay, titled “The Power of Human Connection in a Distracted World,” was cited as another reason the couple stands out. Fitzwilliams praised her perspective, saying, “Catherine’s ‘life’s work’ is the study of the early years and her input on how technology can be destructive is also very valuable. Surely this work is deserving of a joint award.”
Her dedication to early childhood development continues to be a cornerstone of her public service.
4. The Sussexes’ efforts but with warnings
Fitzwilliams acknowledged that Harry and Meghan’s initiatives, particularly regarding mental health, are “to be welcomed.”
However, he added, “Despite their radiating positivity in their public pronouncements, Harry has savaged his family publicly which has caused a deep rift and Meghan has no contact with hers.”
He argued that such contradictions “are not behavior which deserves to be rewarded.”
5. Royal status and public perception
The commentator concluded with a pointed remark, saying, “The only reason their pronouncements get wide coverage is their royal links.”
