Sam Altman-backed startup acquires ex-Meta AI chief’s firm
Campus, a New York-based online college backed by Sam Altman, has announced acquisition of Sizzle AI

In a bold move in the education tech sector, Campus, a New York-based online college backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has announced the acquisition of Sizzle AI, an artificial intelligence–driven education startup founded by former Meta AI chief Jerome Pesenti.
As part of the deal, Pesenti will join Campus as chief technology officer, bringing his team to lead the company’s engineering division.
The acquisition signals Campus’s growing ambition to blend traditional education with next-generation AI tools.
Launched in 2023, Sizzle AI developed a popular learning app that helps students solve academic problems step-by-step, amassing over 1.7 million users globally.
Campus plans to merge this technology with its live, instructor-led classes to deliver a more interactive and personalized online learning experience.
The company, which has raised over $100 million from major investors including Founders Fund, General Catalyst, and Sam Altman, offers two-year associate degrees in business administration and information technology.
According to Campus, the integration of Sizzle AI will enable real-time learning insights for faculty and adaptive academic support for students.
The startup’s model is already attracting attention from top universities, with graduates transferring to NYU, Penn State, and UC San Diego.
