Katy Perry offers support to Taylor Swift amid ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ backlash
Katy Perry extends love to Taylor Swift during album controversy

Katy Perry extended public support to Taylor Swift following criticism and trolling over her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, released on Friday, October 3.
With reactions ranging from fan defense to strong disappointment over certain lyrics, the 40-year-old musician made sure to show love.
Taking to her Instagram stories, Perry shared Swift’s latest song, Eldest Daughter, which is a track about the pressures placed on eldest daughters, a topic Perry likely relates to.
This isn’t the first time the two have backed each other professionally.
During the 35-year-old pop sensation’s record-breaking Eras Tour, Perry attended her concert in March 2024 and shared a selfie with Swift on her Instagram account.
The Teenage Dream hitmaker captioned the story, “Got to see an old friend shine tonight"
It is worth noting that the love between Perry and Swift didn’t always exist, as they had shared a complicated relationship in the past, mainly stemming from their professional disagreement involving backup dancers in 2014.
What seemed like a minor issue escalated through interviews and songs like Bad Blood and Swish Swish.
However, the reconciliation started privately in 2018 when Katy Perry sent Taylor Swift a literal olive branch, leading to a public patch-up in Swift’s 2019 You Need to Calm Down music video.
