Singer Ian Watkins was serving prison sentence for child sex offences

Ian Watkins was targeted in a prison attack and died as a result of the injuries sustained on October 11, confirmed the responsible authorities.
The former lead vocalist for rock band Lostprophets, Watkins was convicted of horrific charges pertaining to “a string of child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby”, according to the BBC.
Initially, a spokesperson for the Police Service reported that they are “unable to comment further while the police investigate.”
While officers were directed to report at the prison on Saturday morning following “a serious assault on a prisoner”, who was pronounced dead on the spot.
Previously, Watkins was also attacked in 2023 while serving his term — the details of the conviction included a sentence of 29 years, with additional six years to serve on license or early release. While the mothers of his minor victims were further handed rulings worth 14 and 17 years.
Notably, Ian Watkins’ appeal for a reduced sentence was rejected in 2014, while his death comes after reports that violence in Wakefield Prison has “increased markedly”.
