King Charles will host the German president, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, for a state visit of three days.

The president will be accompanied by his wife, First Lady Elke Büdenbender, when he arrives for the trip in December.

Announced by the royal family’s Instagram, the caption revealed, “The President of Germany, accompanied by Frau Büdenbender, will pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom, hosted by His Majesty The King, from Wednesday 3rd December to Friday 5th December.”

It is crucial to highlight that the King’s own visit to Germany, in 2023, was the first foreign trip he undertook after assuming the throne.

At the time, his majesty hailed the British and German nations’ “warmth of friendship” — “I have been struck by the warmth of the friendship between our nations,” he said at the state banquet in Berlin, hosted by President Steinmeier.

While the German leader’s state visit to the UK will mark the third one hosted by King Charles this year. He previously welcomed the French and American presidents, Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump, respectively.
