Hollywood is mourning the death of legendary actress Diane Keaton, who passed away on October 11 at age 79.
The Oscar-winning star of Annie Hall and The Godfather leaves behind a legacy that defined a generation of cinema and, according to reports, deep personal sorrow from those who once knew her best.
Among them is her former partner Al Pacino, who is said to be heartbroken over her passing. A friend of the actor told the Daily Mail that Pacino is “full of regret” and still considers Keaton “the love of his life.”
“Looking back, Al admits the love of his life was Diane, who he’s always called ‘an amazing woman,’” the insider told the outlet. “I know he will forever regret he didn’t make his move when he had the chance.”
The pair met while filming The Godfather in 1972 and began dating two years later after wrapping The Godfather Part II. Their relationship was famously on and off for years before ending around 1990.
Though they both lived in Beverly Hills for decades, the source claimed the two had little contact in recent years.
“There’s no need to talk with each other,” Pacino allegedly told the friend. “We said everything that needed to be said at the time.”
Keaton, remembered for her quirky charm, effortless style, and trailblazing performances, earned an Academy Award for Annie Hall and starred in a string of hits including The First Wives Club and Something’s Gotta Give.
