Diana, Meghan, Kate: The royal ladies stand united in doing their own makeup!
Nothing beats doing your own makeup — even when you’re royalty

Though the royal family’s women are bound by certain rules and tips when it comes to even their hair and makeup, a good many of them perfected the art of getting themselves ready while complying with the set guidelines.
For the record, some of the obscure rules for royal makeup includes only wearing light or neutral shades, understated looks, and no public touch-ups.
Keeping in mind all of these procedures, here’s a list of royals who knew exactly how they wanted to look:
Queen Elizabeth
According to Angela Kelly, fashion designer and dressmaker for the royal family, Queen Elizabeth always did her own makeup!
With the exception of the day when she used to record her national Christmas address, December 12, the late monarch used to get ready by herself.
For the exempted occasion, a longtime BBC employee, Marilyn Widdess, was tasked to perform the duty.
Princess Diana
According to Diana’s hairdresser, Richard Dalton, the former Princess of Wales was also in the habit of doing her own makeup, “unless she had to take an official portrait or something like that,” he recounted in his book, All About the Hair: My Decade with Diana.
“If it was a photo shoot or official photos with Charles or the boys, then yes, there was a makeup artist. Otherwise, she would do her own makeup,” he further added.
Meghan Markle
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle also forgoes a full blown glam squad in favour of getting ready on her own.
However, she notably enlisted the help of Daniel Martin, makeup artist and longtime friend, to do the makeup for her wedding.
“Except for her wedding, she does all her own makeup. Dresses herself, styles herself,” Martin shared in 2019.
Kate Middleton
Where Meghan chose a makeup artist for her wedding, Kate Middleton actually opted for the contrary — she chose to do her own makeup for her nuptials, while it is not known if she usually prefers to do so.
Moreover, the reason she did her own wedding makeup is because she reportedly disapproved of the professional help she received for her engagement photoshoot.
According to One Fab Day, the future queen took lessons from makeup artist Arabella Preston “in the run-up to the wedding.”
