Royal family called out by parliamentarian over settlement funds for Prince Andrew’s victim
York MP says ‘a lot of clarity’ is needed about royal family’s handling of Prince Andrew’s alleged crimes

An MP (member of parliament) from York is confronting the royal family over what she has termed as a highly dubious transaction.
Rachel Maskell, MP of the city whose dukedom belonged to Andrew but two days ago, demanded that the Firm be transparent about how the funds for the disgraced royal’s settlement with the late Virginia Giuffre were raised.
“I think we need a lot of clarity over this. I think honesty is so important,” Maskell, a representative of York Central, said. “Virginia Giuffre no longer is with us, but she has family. It’s important that everyone has transparency. There is no space for obfuscation, no matter how embarrassing it is.”
It is crucial to highlight that Maskell has been a longtime campaigner for Andrew to lose his titles. While the royal surrendered his York title on October 17, following discussion with his elder brother, King Charles.
The news came just days before Giuffre’s memoir, Nobody's Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice, is set to be published. In 2022, she settled her case with Prince Andrew and received an out-of-court payment worth £12m.
