Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have all but been cast out of the royal family officially, with the couple recently losing their York titles. But for some, the matter was not handled with the precision it demanded.

Andrew Lownie, the biographer who authored Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, has claimed that Buckingham Palace is merely saving face with their latest decision.

“I think this is just window dressing. I think it’s a fudge, it’s all symbolic and doesn’t really change anything much,” he told The Telegraph.

He further stated that the announcement to strip Andrew of his titles should have come straight from King Charles himself, as his younger brother “continues to deny the allegations”.

“The statement should have come from Charles. He should have said, ‘Look, I’ve talked to him, we sorted the problem out, we’re appalled by what’s happened and we distance ourselves,” he explained.

“Instead”, Lownie lamented, “Andrew has been allowed to say ‘I’ve decided this and that’ when of course he hasn’t decided anything.”

As the writer who charted the rise of Andrew from his days as a war hero during the Falklands conflict to his ongoing fall and his marriage to Sarah in between all of that, he has also claimed that a sense could be picked up about more damage in the future, which is why the Palace dismissed the disgraced couple ahead of time.

“This is just the tip of the iceberg. I think the palace is worried about new allegations that will emerge Stateside, they know there is more damaging stuff to come,” noted Lownie.

While Andrew Lownie still believes that the current situation was “a real opportunity to lance the boil”, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have been ordered to remain “invisible” for future family gatherings, no longer invited to join the Christmas celebrations at Sandringham this year.
