Samsung is gearing up for one of its most talked-about launches this fall, the unveiling of its long-rumoured extended reality (XR) headset, known internally as Project Moohan.

The event, titled “Worlds Wide Open,” is scheduled for October 21 at 10pm ET, where Samsung is expected to introduce the headset alongside its new Android XR platform.

But in true tech-world fashion, a major leak has already spoiled much of the surprise, revealing details that have fans buzzing ahead of the big day.

The leak that started it all

A recent leak hinted that Project Moohan will debut as the Samsung Galaxy XR, marking the company’s first commercial headset to run on Google and Qualcomm’s co-developed Android XR platform.

Insiders say Samsung was planning this reveal all along, but the leak forced its hand, giving fans an early peek into the company’s bold step into immersive tech.

AI at the heart of XR

Samsung is framing Project Moohan as an AI-native device, powered by deep integration with its mobile AI ecosystem.

The headset reportedly uses a custom Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, optimised to handle advanced AI tasks like eye tracking, mixed reality rendering, and real-time 3D mapping.

A partnership built for the future

This isn’t a solo mission. Samsung has teamed up with Google and Qualcomm to bring Android XR to life, a platform designed to power the next generation of AR and VR devices.

Pricing, availability rumours

While Samsung hasn’t confirmed a price, reports suggest a premium tag around $1,800, similar to Apple’s Vision Pro.

Pre-reservations are already open, offering a $100 credit for early sign-ups, hinting at an imminent launch window.

What to expect

From “everyday immersive experiences” to cross-device compatibility with Galaxy phones and tablets, Project Moohan is being pitched as Samsung’s answer to Apple’s spatial ambitions.
