King Charles and Queen Camilla have finally arrived at the Vatican to begin their historic engagement with Pope Leo XIV.

Photographed with the recently appointed Catholic sovereign for the very first time, the royal couple are also set to offer prayers with him during the ongoing state visit.

BBC reported that for the King and Queen’s arrival to the Vatican, a red carpet lineup of noted personalities awaited the couple. Including the UK’s Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, who will later “be giving a reading from the Bible during the service in the Sistine Chapel.”

While the royal family’s official Instagram channel also announced, “The King and Queen have met Pope Leo XIV (pontifex) in the Apostolic Palace, to begin their State Visit to the Holy See.”

“Their Majesties will undertake engagements with Pope Leo XIV in celebration of the 2025 Papal Jubilee. This will include a special ecumenical service in the Sistine Chapel,” the caption further revealed. While it was additionally noted, “Later this afternoon, The King and Queen will visit the Papal Basilica and Abbey of ‘St. Paul’s Outside the Walls’.”

Reportedly, some of the initial words exchanged between King Charles and Pope Leo were about the endless press — when the monarch noted that the cameras are a “constant hazard”, the Catholic leader replied, “You get used to it.”
