Elon Musk has publicly apologised after users of his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), reported widespread issues with the app’s algorithm, including sudden drops in reach, broken recommendations, and inconsistent visibility for creators.

Taking to X, the tech billionaire wrote, “My apologies for frustrations with the X algorithm. We are working hard to fix the problem.”

The apology followed a flood of complaints from users who claimed their posts and live streams were no longer reaching their usual audiences. Many said their engagement had collapsed overnight.

One prominent user, journalist @luislacombereal, wrote: “Something deeply concerning is happening to my journalistic work on X. I run a conservative news channel with regular live broadcasts. I don’t break rules or incite hate, but my reach dropped from 120,000 live viewers per stream to just 8,000 overnight.”

Similar complaints have since surfaced across multiple regions, with both individual creators and large accounts reporting the same issue.

Earlier this month, Musk had revealed that X is transitioning toward a fully AI-driven recommendation system, promising a fairer and more personalised feed, especially for smaller or newer accounts.

That update, expected to roll out in the coming weeks, may be linked to the recent algorithm instability.
