Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan team up for 'Miami Vice' reboot
The new 'Miami Vice' will be filmed for IMAX and is expected to release on August 6, 2027
Austin Butler is reportedly in early talks to star alongside Michael B. Jordan in Universal Pictures’ upcoming reboot of Miami Vice.
As reported by Variety, the film will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, best known for Top Gun: Maverick.
If the deal moves forward, the 34-year-old actor will play the stylish detective James Sonny Crockett, while Jordan takes on the role of Ricardo Rico Tubbs, the iconic South Florida duo originally made famous by Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas in the 1980s hit TV series.
The story is said to reflect the crime, corruption, fashion, and flashy cars that defined Miami in the mid-1980s.
Kosinski’s recent projects, Top Gun: Maverick and F1, both proved the worth of his direction, and now he returns to explore the world of undercover cops.
The new Miami Vice will be filmed for IMAX and is slated for release on August 6, 2027.
Moreover, Butler, fresh off his Golden Globe-winning performance as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, and his villainous role in Dune: Part Two, joins Michael B. Jordan, whose recent hit Sinner proved that Spiderhead maker has chosen the right stars for the Miami Vice reboot.
Dylan Clark and Kosinski will produce the film, with a script penned by Eric Warren Singer and Dan Gilroy.
