Anthony Hopkins recently made an unbelievable confession about his remarkable journey to sobriety.

The 87-year-old actor gave an interview to The New York Times podcast, The Interview on Saturday, October 25, where he discussed his upcoming memoir, “We Did OK, Kid”.

During the interview, Hopkins recalled the exact terrifying moment he realised that he was an alcoholic, and his life changing night.

The Oscar-winning actor recollected, "I was drunk and driving my car here in California in a blackout, no clue where I was going, when I realized that I could have killed somebody — or myself, which I didn't care about."

The Silence of the Lambs actor then turned to an ex-agent at a Beverly Hills party and said, "I need help," marking the start of his 49-year sobriety journey.

"The craving to drink was taken from me, or left," the The Father star recalled that party night, adding, "Now I don't have any theories except divinity or that power that we all possess inside us that creates us from birth, life force, whatever it is. It's a consciousness, I believe. That's all I know.”

It is worth mentioning here that the Locked actor marked 49 years of sobriety last December.

Meanwhile, Anthony Hopkins’ memoir, "We Did OK, Kid", will be released on November 4, 2025.
