Tina Knowles is opening up about a deeply emotional moment she shared with her daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, before undergoing surgery following a stage 1 breast cancer diagnosis.

During her chat with PEOPLE at the 27th Annual Angel Ball in New York City on October 27, the 71-year-old businesswoman, fashion designer, author, and philanthropist recalled how her daughters comforted her moments before she was going for the surgery.

“Right before I was taken in, my girls sang a gospel song, Walk With Me, which I absolutely love” Knowles said.

“I went in there laughing and feeling so blessed, like everything was going to be okay. And it was.”

She also shared how her daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, lightened the moment with laughter, teasing her about the viral “demure” trend. “They just kept showing me that video,” she said with a smile.

Supported at the gala, by her granddaughter, Blue Ivy Carter, Knowles emphasized the importance of early detection, urging women not to delay their mammograms.

"It's important not to slack on your mammograms," she stated.

“If I hadn’t gotten tested early, I shudder to think what could’ve happened,” she further reflected.

Her powerful story, detailed in her memoir Matriarch, continues to inspire women to prioritize their health and strength.
