OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has put an end to all the whispers about his company OpenAI fleeing California.

In a new post on X (formerly Twitter), Altman declared that California his “home” and insisted that OpenAI has no plans to follow in the footsteps of other tech giants who threaten to leave when legal troubles arise.

“California is my home, and I love it here, and when I talked to Attorney General Bonta two weeks ago I made clear that we were not going to do what those other companies do and threaten to leave if sued,” the post reads.

For those unversed, the AI giant has been under increasing scrutiny from California regulators over its corporate structure and safety policies, especially as the company moves to reorganise itself into a public benefit corporation (PBC) valued at around $500 billion.

Altman’s post seems like a peace offering after months of quiet tension between the AI powerhouse and the state government.

While some Silicon Valley players like Elon Musk and Meta have clashed with regulators or hinted at relocating, Altman appears to be taking the opposite route.
