Emma Thompson shares how AI ‘annoys’ her during creative process

Oscar-winning actress and screenwriter Emma Thompson just got candid about her frustration with artificial intelligence.

During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Thompson opened up about her frustration with AI tools trying to “rewrite” her work.

When Colbert asked how she felt about the “coming AI revolution,” the Love Actually star didn’t hold back.

“Intense irritation. I cannot begin to tell you,” she said.

Thompson, who won an Academy Award for adapting Sense and Sensibility in 1995, revealed that she still writes her scripts by hand before transferring them to her computer.

“I write longhand on a pad because there’s a connection between the brain and the hand,” she explained. 

“Then when I’ve written something, I put it into a Word document - and recently, the Word document keeps saying, ‘Would you like me to rewrite that for you?’” she went on to say.

The actress said she found the interruptions infuriating. “I don’t need you to fking rewrite what I’ve just written! Will you fk off?! Just f**k off! I’m so annoyed.”
