Elon Musk announces free Starlink services in THIS US state
Starlink has stepped in to help Hurricane Melissa's victims, offering free internet across Jamaica and Bahamas
Elon Musk’s satellite internet company Starlink has stepped in to help victims of Hurricane Melissa, offering free internet access across Jamaica and the Bahamas until the end of November.
The powerful Category 5 storm ripped through the Caribbean earlier this week, cutting off major communication lines and leaving thousands without power.
In response, Starlink partnered with Flow Jamaica and its parent company, Liberty Caribbean, to restore connectivity and support emergency relief operations.
Announcing the move on X (formerly Twitter), Starlink wrote: “For those impacted by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and the Bahamas, Starlink service is now free through the end of November to help with response and recovery efforts.”
The post quickly went viral, garnering over 1.5 million views and widespread praise for Musk’s swift response.
The free access will allow families, aid groups, and first responders to stay connected while local networks undergo repairs.
Notably, this isn’t the first time Starlink has been deployed in a crisis. The Musk-owned company previously provided free satellite coverage after Hurricane Helene hit the United States in 2024.
Liberty Caribbean also announced that it will integrate Starlink’s Direct-to-Cell technology into Flow’s existing network to ensure continued mobile coverage during future disasters.
The collaboration, authorised by Jamaica’s Spectrum Management Authority, highlights how satellite internet is becoming a vital tool for disaster recovery and emergency communication.
