Sydney Sweeney receives empowering support from Sharon Stone
Sharon Stone defends ‘Euphoria’ co-star Sydney Sweeney
Sharon Stone will soon team up with Sydney Sweeney for the third season of HBO’s hit series, Euphoria.
Stone will join Sweeney onscreen next year, however, the veteran actress is already displaying public support for her younger counterpart.
As the pair attended the Variety’s Power of Women gala in LA today, Stone reflected on Sweeney’s American Eagle commercial controversy. She told senior entertainment writer Angelique Jackson, “It’s okay to use what mama gave you. It’s really fine.”
To recall, the 28-year-old actress sparked extreme backlash for the brand’s denim ad using the slogan “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans”. The pun on genes was widely interpreted to be based in eugenics.
Though the Basic Instinct star did not address that criticism, she further added, “It’s hard to be hot, and I think we all know that. It’s really okay to use every bit of hotness you have — right here, right now — and go for whatever that is.”
Stone also recounted the late anthropologist, Jane Goodall’s words to Sweeney, when the controversy took off during their time on the set. She told her young colleague that when Goodall was featured on the cover of Life, “Other scientists said, ‘Well, she only got the cover of Life Magazine because she had good legs.’ And Jane said, ‘Well, if I did, then that helped me get more money for my research.’”
To which Sweeney replied, according to Stone, “Yeah, and I’m sure I made a billion dollars for the jeans company, and I’m good with that. Because, you know what? I’ll get another job.”
Meanwhile, Euphoria’s third season comes out in spring 2026. Regarding Sydney Sweeney and her other co-stars on the show, Sharon Stone shared, “It was such a joy to go to work with these amazing young people.”
