The final decade of David Bowie’s life is set to feature in an upcoming documentary, tentatively titled David Bowie: The Final Act.

According to Deadline, the project will be produced by Channel 4, Dogwoof and Rogan Productions, and will feature “rare interviews with those who knew and worked alongside Bowie as well as famous fans and figures who have been inspired by his artistry”.

While Bowie’s final album Blackstar, released just two days before he passed away, will provide the backdrop for the documentary’s explorations into the culminating years of his life and career.

Timed around 90 minutes, the film will be directed by Jonathan Stiasny, who is also credited as a producer on other documentary features like Formula 1: Drive to Survive and Twitter: Breaking the Bird.

Speaking about his latest project, Stiasny shared, “The traditional music documentary celebrates triumph. What fascinated me most when making this film was how Bowie’s final chapter wasn’t an ending, it was a resurrection. He transformed failure into triumph, silence into revelation, and ultimately, death into art.”

Though a release schedule for David Bowie: The Final Act is not yet known, it is worth remembering that the planned documentary’s subject died in 2016, after a months-long battle with liver cancer.
