Billie Eilish ignites feud with Mark Zuckerberg at WSJ Awards
"If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire?", Eilish takes a jibe at Meta owner
Billie Eilish's witty speech turned into a viral moment at the WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards in New York City on Wednesday, and it seems like billionaire Mark Zuckerberg was offended by the singer's remarks.
While accepting the Music Innovator Award, the Bad Guy singer used her platform to speak about wealth and responsibility.
“We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country,” she said. “I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it.” she told the audience.
Then she added with a cheeky tone, “If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give your money away, shorties.”
Her words drew a mix of laughter and applause from the star-studded crowd except from Zuckerberg, who reportedly didn’t clap.
The Meta founder, whose net worth is estimated at $257 billion and is known for donating billions of dollars in the past, looked unhappy during the speech.
It should be noted that the Lost Cause singer had just donated $11.5 million from her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour to climate and food equity causes.
Moreover, she dressed for the event in a navy blazer and skirt, layering with a grey sweater, and brown Oxford shoes, along with tall grey socks.
