Marvel writer reveals scrapped origin story for the Young Avengers

One of the biggest rules of time travel is that even the smallest change can alter everything and that’s exactly what happened when Disney decided to move away from Kang the Conquerer as the main villain of the Multiverse Saga.

With Kang out, Doctor Doom is now set to become the MCU’s new major threat, and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has turned into Avengers: Doomsday.

But this shift also changes plans for the Young Avengers and in a recent Reddit AMA, co-writer Michael Waldron revealed that he and Jeff Loveness and originally planned to introduce the Young Avengers in The Kang Dynasty.

“Jeff Loveness and I spent an afternoon pitching on the Young Avengers defeating a version of Kang and being so stoked about it,” he wrote.

This would have reflected their comic book debut in 2005’s Young Avengers #1 by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung, where the young heroes unite under Iron Lad, later revealed to be a younger version of Kang himself.

The story ties closely to Kurt Busiek’s The Kang Dynasty, in which Kang nearly conquers the world after the Avengers disband.

Waldron also shared that after their win, the Young Avengers would have found a card on Kang reading, “Be patient with him, it was his first day as a Kang.”

Now, fans must wait longer for the Young Avengers’ debut unless someone can change the timeline once again.
