Timothy Simons, 47-year-old actor, is standing by his character Sasha’s choices in the hit Netflix series Nobody Want This.

In season 2, viewers see Sasha’s marriage to Esther (played by Jackie Tohn) come to an end, leading to emotional fallout for both characters.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Simons explained that Sasha’s actions come from a place of trying but not fully addressing the deeper issues in his marriage.

The Candy star shared, “He’s trying to fix things without dealing with the real problems, sometimes things have to fall apart before you can see what’s really wrong.”

After the breakup, Sasha turns to Morgan (Justine Lupe), the sister of Noah’s girlfriend Joanne (Kristen Bell), for comfort something that adds more tension to the story.

When asked what advice he’d give Sasha, Simons joked, “You’re doing great. Perfect guy, no flaws,” before adding more seriously, “He needs to let Esther have space and not try to force things. Sometimes, you have to let people figure it out.”

Although Simons admitted he was surprised the story didn’t end happily as he appreciated its honesty.

“It’s real. Relationships don’t always work out, and that’s okay,” he said.

Tohn agreed saying she was initially “bummed” by the ending but found it authentic.

She said, “They have so many cute moments, but Esther still has doubts. That’s life—it’s messy and real.”

For the unversed, the season 2 of Nobody Wants This is now streaming on Netflix.
