'Scream 7' faces renewed criticism following trailer without Melissa Barrera

It has been nearly two years since Melissa Barrera’s controversial dismissal from the film franchise, but the Scream 7 trailer has once again sparked fan outrage.
Fans of the iconic Scream franchise wasted no time and erupted on social media to slam the new trailer, reigniting outrage over Spyglass Media’s allegedly firing Melissa Barrera for her pro-Palestinian comments, which was then followed by Jenna Ortega’s departure from the slasher film series.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, a user wrote, "This is missing two very important women…"
"Where the Scream franchise ended for me,” another posted with a still from the final shot of Scream VI.
Another person made their stance clear, saying, "We will not be supporting because of what Spyglass did to Melissa Barrera!”
Another fan encouraged others to watch The Copenhagen Test as it starred the 35-year-old Mexican actress opposite Simu Liu.
"Boycott Scream 7 and support Scary Movie 6 instead,” another stated, referencing Marlon Wayans’ upcoming horror parody, which begins filming next year, just as the original Scary Movie spoofed Scream back in 1996.
