Elon Musk teases playful name for SpaceX’s first Moonbase
Elon Musk suggests 'Auda City', a potential name for company’s future project
Elon Musk is once again making headlines for his sense of humour. The tech billionaire recently suggested a potential name for the company’s future project.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the SpaceX CEO posted, “Moonbase name: Auda City, or is it too luney?”
Though Musk didn’t confirm whether this will be the official name, the suggestion instantly sparked excitement among his millions of followers.
Just days earlier, he also teased that SpaceX’s Starship will be used to “build Moonbase Alpha,” a reference to NASA’s 2010 simulation game “Moonbase Alpha.”
Set in 2032, the game allowed players to act as astronauts repairing a lunar base, an uncanny coincidence with Musk’s real-life ambitions to establish a functioning habitat on the Moon within the next decade.
Notably, the idea of Moonbase Alpha has been a long-standing part of Musk’s vision for human space exploration.
According to SpaceX’s earlier plans, the lunar base would serve as a testing ground for technologies needed to support life on Mars.
While the name might sound like another one of Musk’s playful jabs, it also reflects his bold vision i.e., to make life multiplanetary.
For those uninitiated, a Moonbase is a facility on the Moon designed to support human and robotic activity, ranging from a temporary outpost to a permanent settlement.
