Relationship drama, marriage troubles, and career jeopardy: How David Harbour continues to sink
David Harbour’s controversies keep mounting up as ‘Stranger Things’ release draws closer
Demons from David Harbour’s past have come out to fan the hellfire which his life and career currently seem to be surrounded by.
Amid the Stranger Things alum’s highly publicised split from ex-wife Lily Allen, the reports of a new workplace harassment complaint from his once beloved co-star, Millie Bobby Brown, has wrecked Harbour’s image even further.
From his exes joining forces to the promise of a bleak future awaiting his Netflix hit’s upcoming promotional run, here’s a rundown of the major controversies plaguing David Harbour:
Madeline comes out to play
Lily Allen, who married Harbour in September 2020 and filed for divorce in September this year, chose to take the 50-year-old actor to the cleaners with her first album release in seven years — West End Girl.
A particular track on the album, Madeline, gained widespread attention for its explicit references to affairs and infidelity — a jab which is largely understood to have been pointed at Harbour.
While Allen sang her heart out on the song, even narrating a voice note from her ex-husband among its lyrics — “I can’t trust anything that comes out of your mouth/I’m not convinced that he didn’t f*** you in our house” — she didn’t stop there. The singer-songwriter further alluded to the track, reportedly titled after a fictional pseudonym for the woman Harbour betrayed their marital vows with, with her Halloween costume.
Allen dressed as the famous children’s literature character from the Madeline novel series by Ludwig Bemelmans.
Ex-girlfriend Alison Sudol’s reaction on Lily Allen’s post
It would appear that Allen is not the only woman Harbour may have wronged — his ex-girlfriend, actress Alison Sudol, also feels the same and chose to express that feeling on an Instagram post shared by his ex-wife.
In the post where Allen announced the release of her new album, Sudol left seven fire emojis among the comments.
The Stranger problem
While his greatly popular portrayal as the chief of police Jim Hopper on Stranger Things catapulted Harbour as one of the rather positive male figures on screen in recent times, his hard earned status as one is now in danger of being compromised as the show’s end looms closer.
According to fresh reports from the Daily Mail, Harbour’s co-star on the series, Millie Bobby Brown has filed “a harassment and bullying claim before they started shooting the last season.”
While the report is yet to be verified, the actor who played Brown’s adoptive father onscreen and has shared a deeply amicable relationship with her offscreen would have yet another grievance to clear once the show kicks off its press tour for the release of its final season, which is set to air the first four of its eight episodes on November 26.
A source for the Mail revealed, “There were pages and pages of accusations. The investigation went on for months.”
However, a separate insider for Netflix claimed that the streaming giant will likely make sure that the situation deescalates in time. Noting that since the upcoming fifth and final season of the series is set up to be “a theatrical event”, “Nothing is going to overshadow this, not even the leading man’s private life.”
