Idris Elba sets the record straight on James Bond rumours
The ‘Luther’ actor break silence on James Bond casting buzz
Idris Elba has cleared the air once and for all regarding the ongoing speculation about him playing James Bond.
In a surprising twist, the 53-year-old star actor firmly denied any possibility of taking on the iconic role, explaining that age is a major factor.
“I can’t believe I am still being asked this at 53. When you sign up to Bond you sign up for a decade of making films, often a bit longer. Nobody wants to see Bond running around in his mid 60s!” Elba told The Mirror.
The buzz has constantly followed the Emmy nominated star’s long-standing career, best known for his role as the tormented detective Luther.
He hinted that he might reprise the role in the future, once again donning his signature grey trench coat.
“Luther is the character I have played the longest, it’s probably the character that takes the most out of me,” Elba said.
He added, “It takes such concentration to play Luther, he is so complex, and that’s why I love playing him because he takes me to places I haven’t been before.”
“There is nothing to report at the moment, but I don’t think I am ready to say I have hung up his coat just yet,” the Heads of State actor concluded.
As for his forthcoming projects, Idris Elba is collaborating with King Charles III on a Netflix documentary titled The King’s Trust, set to premiere in 2026.
