Zohran Mamdani’s candidacy heats up New York mayoral election: Who are his celebrity supporters?

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee in the upcoming New York mayoral election, has emerged as not only the most favoured state representative in the current race but also as one of the hottest politicians on the global stage.

Despite campaigning in a local election, Mamdani captured the imagination and the attention of the global youth with his incredibly progressive manifesto — which has obviously made him a prime target of the far-right wrath world over, not the least of which has stemmed from within the American political and public sphere.

A consequence of Mamdani’s popularity, the son of renowned filmmaker Mira Nair, has been the steadfast celebrity support which he has gathered along the way. Whether to make their own progressive values known or out of a typically liberal kneejerk reaction, several famous names have publicly rallied behind the 34-year-old candidate.

When is the election?

The 2025 election for the mayorship of New York is scheduled for November 4. According to CNN, “Elections in multiple states on Tuesday are set to gauge how voters feel in the first year of Donald Trump’s second presidency — and whether Democrats have improved their standing with the midterm elections just one year away.”
