Ella Anderson shares that she found a new favorite artist while filming Craig Brewer's biographical drama, Song Sung Blue.

The Boss actress exclusively speaks with PEOPLE at the premiere of Song Sung Blue during AFI Fest in Los Angeles. Ella revealed that her appreciation for Neil Diamond’s music grew while filming the movie.

“I’ve always loved how his songs bring people together,” Anderson shared.

She also claimed that Neil Diamond had never made it on her playlist before she filmed the movie.

“But after doing this film, I discovered so many of his great tracks; he’s definitely on my playlist now.”

Moreover, the film's story follows Milwaukee musicians Mike and Claire Sardina, played by Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, who form a Neil Diamond tribute band called Lightning & Thunder in the late 1980s. Ella Anderson stars as Rachel, Claire’s daughter from her first marriage.

She also reflected on her preparation for the role, saying she was deeply inspired by her co-stars’ commitment.

“Kate was immediately so nurturing, and Hugh’s work ethic blew me away. I was taking notes the entire time,” she recalled.

The Glass Castle actress praised Hudson, calling her “one of those people who lights up every room” and “an incredible mom and host.”

Song Sung Blue hits theaters on December 25, inviting audiences to rediscover the timeless music of Neil Diamond.
