Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz to get ‘The Mummy’ franchise back on its feet
‘90s kids rejoice — Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reuniting for a fourth installment of the popular Mummy franchise, originally headlined by the pair.
The two Oscar winners are set to work together two decades after their last outing, 2001’s The Mummy Returns. While Fraser came back to star in the adventure series’ third film, 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Weisz’s upcoming appearance will be the first since its sequel.
Though the original trilogy of films were produced by Universal Pictures, according to Variety, “Filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who call themselves Radio Silence, are set to direct the fourth installment in the decades-old action franchise.”
Previously, Universal had attempted an eventually ill-fated reboot of the franchise with 2017’s The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise.
Whereas Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz had led 1999’s The Mummy and its second installment two years later.
