Sleep Apnea is something which even glamorous celebrities can’t escape.

What is Sleep Apnea?

It is a sleep disorder where a person's breathing is interrupted during sleep and it could happen multiple times a night, which disrupts sleep quality.

This sleeping disorder has three main types, including Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), Central Sleep Apnea (CSA), and Mixed Sleep Apnea, which is a combination of OSA and CSA.

It’s worth mentioning here that untreated sleep apnea can cause serious health problems.

Carrie Fisher

Did you know the Star Wars actress passed away due to sleep apnea? In 2017, Fisher was on tour when she fell asleep on a plane and never woke up.

At that time, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office concluded that sleep apnea was the primary cause, while also noting that she had atherosclerotic heart disease and had taken multiple drugs before her death.

Rosie O'Donnell

The comedian-actress was diagnosed with sleep apnea after she took an at-home sleep study test.

According to the The Rosie O'Donnell Show star, her sleep apnea was severe, and she felt a drastic change even after one night of treatment.

Amy Poehler

The Parks and Recreation actress was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) at the age of 40 after undergoing a sleep study.

Poehler has been open about her struggles with sleep apnea by sharing her experiences with CPAP therapy.

While sharing her experience with Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), she said in an interview for a movie promotion that the therapy has completely changed her life.

“I've always been a terrible sleeper. I performed most of my career incredibly sleep-deprived," she said, adding, “And when I -- really, it's the best thing I've ever done for my health.”

Shonda Rhimes

The producer and screenwriter has been open about her struggles with sleep apnea.

The Grey's Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder producer-screenwriter experienced symptoms like exhaustion, snoring, and frequent waking.

She also expressed that after her treatment started; she stated that her symptoms went away.
