Taylor Momsen details struggle to leave 'Gossip Girl' before season 3 exit
Taylor Momsen starred as Jenny Humphery on 'Gossip Girl'
Walking away from Gossip Girl after three seasons was anything but easy for Taylor Momsen.
During her appearance on Call Her Daddy podcast, on November 5, the 32-year-old singer and former actress, who played Jenny Humphery on the Teen Romance drama series, admitted, "Leaving a career that is so prosperous was not easy."
"It was an easy decision for me, to actually get out of a contract was not easy," she clarified.
The Heaven Knows singer reflected on the chaos of season 1, saying, "Season 1’s a whirlwind," and went on to explain that she had hoped to exit by season 2 to pursue music with The Pretty Reckless.
"It started with a ‘I don’t want to do this anymore,’ but you’re in a lock and key contract with CW, Warner Brothers, you know, all of that stuff," she shared.
Continuing, “It was a very long battle of me arguing [with] everyone, ‘Go and get me out of this. I can’t do this anymore. This is killing me.’ I have something else I want to do with my life and it has nothing to do with this.”
Taylor revealed that people started viewing her as "ungrateful" the moment she expressed her desire to leave the show.
Her attempts to get out of the contract were unsuccessful, so she approached the executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who after multiple conversations, decided to write her out of the series.
"I really have to credit them for doing that for me, because they did not have to,” she continued. “They wrote me out of the show so I could go on tour and be in a band."
