GTA VI developer accuses fired employees of disclosing company secrets
Rockstar Games has disclosed the actual reason behind recent mass layoffs
Rockstar Games, the developer behind the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto (GTA) VI, has disclosed the actual reason behind recent mass layoffs.
The GTA VI developer has claimed that the employees it recently dismissed were actually fired for leaking sensitive company information.
As reported by Bloomberg, in a statement, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive has alleged that the dismissed employees shared confidential information outside authorised channels.
“Last week, we took action against a small number of individuals who were found to be distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum, a clear violation of company policy,” Take-Two said.
“This was in no way related to people’s right to join a union or engage in union activities.”
For those unversed, last week, Bloomberg reported that 30–40 employees across Rockstar’s UK and Canada offices were abruptly fired.
The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) quickly accused the GTA VI developer of carrying out “the most blatant and ruthless act of union busting” the gaming industry has seen.
According to the union, the fired workers were part of a private Discord chat for union organising and were targeted because of their collective action.
The controversy comes just months before GTA VI’s expected release in May 2026, a launch analysts predict could be the biggest entertainment debut in history.
However, despite the buzz, Rockstar has kept details tightly controlled, releasing only two trailers and a handful of screenshots.
