Jacob Elordi defends 'Saltburn' bathtub scene, 'There's far more extreme things in cinema'
Jacob Elordi reflects on controversial scene from 'Saltburn'
While fans couldn’t stop talking about the unforgettable Saltburn scene, Jacob Elordi didn’t seem fazed by it or the online reactions.
Speaking on Entertainment Weekly's Awardist podcast, the Frankenstein actor looked back on the notorious bathtub scene from Emerald Fennell's 2023 thriller, where Oliver (Barry Keoghan) shockingly drinks Felix’s (Jacob) bathwater after spying on him.
According to the 28-year-old Australian actor, the shock and discomfort surrounding the bathtub scene highlights the audience's unease with sexual content in film.
"I actually think it shows me just how, I guess, prudish we are," he stated, adding that he has come across far outrageous things in other productions.
Continuing, "When I watch that, I just think there's far more extreme things in cinema that I've seen, far more graphic."
Jacob also noted that viewers rarely flinch at graphic violence on screen, yet are disturbed by Saltburn’s sexual content, which he finds confusing.
"There's more alarming things in the top 10 streamed remakes of crime documentaries on every streaming platform," the Euphoria actor remarked. "I think that's much more alarming, the kind of horrible joy that we all get from watching children be mutilated. That's what was interesting to me."
He admitted he found the audience’s strong reaction quite fascinating, saying, "I was like, here's a piece of fiction with something just a little taboo, and that makes people's skin crawl. It's an interesting parallel."
