Secret behind Timothée Chalamet’s pink coat that almost ended his career
Timothée Chalamet reveals he's inspired by his co-stars like Zendaya and Anya Taylor-Joy
Timothée Chalamet revealed that his iconic pink trench coat moment almost never happened — if he’d listened to his publicist.
In a new Vogue cover story, the Dune star reflected on his breakout year — 2017, revealing that a publicist once told him he’d ruin his career if he wore a certain outfit to his first major film premiere.
The occasion was the Berlin International Film Festival, where Call Me by Your Name was set to debut.
Chalamet spotted designer Haider Ackermann wearing a pink Berluti trench coat and instantly knew he wanted it for the premiere.
“He was in this big pink raincoat, and I was like, ‘Oh, boom. That’s what I’m wearing,’” Chalamet recalled, saying his publicist strongly disagreed with him.
“They said, ‘You’re not even going to get off the ground! You’ll ruin what you’re doing before it begins,’” he shared.
Ignoring the warning, Chalamet moved forward and wore the coat, pairing the pink Berluti coat with a sleek black suit and boots.
The bold choice helped establish his status as a modern-day style icon.
The Oscar-nominated actor said he has a new publicist and remains close friends with Ackermann, who is currently the creative director at Tom Ford.
During the interview, Chalamet also opened up about his future plans, admitting that fatherhood is “on the radar.”
Moreover, he's inspired by co-stars Zendaya and Anya Taylor-Joy; he learned that success doesn’t have to come at the cost of a personal life.
“You don’t have to be selfish to be great,” he told Vogue.
