A royal misstep turned costly when Queen Camilla’s jewels reportedly vanished during a stop at a service station.

It happened while the 78-year-old Monarch and King Charles were getting ready for their 2022 royal tour of Canada.

As part of the late Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Royal couple were set to fly across the Atlantic but according to author Robert Jobson, the trip got off to a rocky start when Camilla reportedly became the target of a local gang.

Robert claimed that during the brief pause at a service station, opportunistic thieves managed to steal a bag which belonged to Camilla while the aides were on a break.

"At Beaconsfield Services, located off Junction 2 of the M40 motorway in Buckinghamshire, Camilla's jewels were stolen after three royal aides left the bag, labelled 'HRH The Duchess of Cornwall', unattended in an unlocked car," he wrote in his book Windsor Legacy: A Royal Dynasty.

Continuing, "A local gang struck when one aide stepped away for a cigarette while the other two were inside getting coffees."

The author further stated that MI5 were promptly called in to assist, and thanks to nearby CCTV, the stolen jewels were traced and recovered within a few hours.

However, senior royal sources were seemingly "amazed” that the ordeal was kept under wraps.

"No charges were filed, no police report was ever made, and the incident was buried to avoid embarrassment," Robert added.
