Jennifer Lopez left out of ex-fiance Alex Rodriguez’s latest docuseries: Director explains why

One of Jennifer Lopez’s many high profile romances included Alex Rodriguez, former baseball player, nicknamed A-Rod.

A-Rod and J-Lo made for a fascinating couple until a few years ago — the two started dating in 2017, got engaged in 2019, and ended the engagement in 2021, with their official split confirmed in April of the same year.

Now that a new docuseries based on the retired athlete’s life and career has been released, many viewers would have hoped to catch a mention of one of his most publicised relationships — only to be left disappointed.

There are indeed no references to the On The Floor singer in Alex vs A-Rod and the documentary’s co-director Gotham Chopra has explained that decision in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter.

Chopra admitted that Rodriguez’s previous relationships were referenced “visually in some of the sections about his crazy off-field life, indiscretions, ubiquity on Page Six etc. when he first joined the Yankees”. However, “a conscious effort” prevented the series from focusing on a discussion around the romance with Lopez specifically.

“In terms of his most recent high-profile relationship with Jennifer Lopez, we had made a conscious effort to really focus on his baseball career – and specifically his PED use – and not necessarily to do the total biopic,” he told THR.

While Rodriguez also reflected on the choice during his interview with the outlet, saying, “I’ve never been big about sharing my private life – and less now.”

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez famously moved on from Alex Rodriguez to her then-former fiance Ben Affleck in 2022, rekindling the couple’s older romance. The two later got married and have since been divorced.
