Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s latest announcement clashed with the royal family’s appearance at the Festival of Remembrance in London, November 8.

While the royal household marked the annual military commemoration at the Royal Albert Hall, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced a major programme to support the “struggling” families in America.

“In a moment when families across the United States are struggling to put food on the table, Prince Harry and Meghan, have been supporting local communities affected by the growing hunger crisis and assisting local partners providing meals and relief to those most in need,” the couple’s statement, shared via the website of their Archewell Foundation, revealed.

Citing the “food insecurity” being faced by millions across the US currently, Harry and Meghan’s latest message further stated that they are “mobilizing support through their nonprofit organization, The Archewell Foundation, to help meet this moment.”

“Across the country, food banks and community organizations are working tirelessly to fill the gap, and stepping up to meet the need. At The Archewell Foundation, we believe that food is more than sustenance—it is dignity, stability, and care for one another,” it was added. The website further listed organisations which they will reach out to with donations “to support those most affected.”

These organisations include Food Bank of Santa Barbara County, Our Big Kitchen LA, Project Angel Food, Food Forward, ALMA Backyard Farms, and LIFT.

It is crucial to highlight that the Sussex camp’s latest announcement came after the US Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to temporarily halt “billions of dollars’ worth of funding for food benefits used by millions of low-income Americans,” according to the BBC.

Meanwhile, across the pond, members of the royal family are preparing to observe Remembrance Day — set to take place on Sunday, November 9, and expected to be led by King Charles.
