Rod Wave faces legal trouble amid celebration of first Grammy nod
The ‘Heart on Ice’ rapper's Grammy dreams clouded by Georgia arrest
Rod Wave, whose real name is Rodarius Marcell Green, was arrested in Georgia on drug and weapon charges on the same day he received his first-ever Grammy nomination.
According to PEOPLE, the 27-year-old American rapper was detained by the Atlanta police on Friday, November 7, on gun possession and multiple other charges.
He was charged with possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony, reckless driving, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
However, Rod was released from custody the following day.
In a statement to TMZ, the rapper’s lawyers said that he was “unjustly profiled and unlawfully arrested in Atlanta.”
“The arresting officer belongs to the Atlanta Police Department’s controversial Crime Suppression Unit — a group known for its aggressive tactics and emphasis on high arrest numbers rather than genuine public safety,” they further stated.
The attorneys called the arrest a result of a “quota-driven approach” and described it as “a clear violation of [his] rights.”
Fellow rapper DJ Akademiks confirmed Rod’s arrest on Instagram, writing, “Rod Wave was arrested on a gun charge last night . Well keep u updated on when he’s free.” (Sic)
Earlier this year, Rod was arrested twice in Georgia, once in May on 14 charges, including aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit a felony, and again in June for battery.
The arrest came on the same day that the Great Gatsby rapper earned his first Grammy nod for Sinners, a song from the soundtrack of the 2025 film of the same name.
Moreover, Rod Wave's upcoming concert tour, The Redemption Experience, is slated to begin in December 2025.
