Prince William wants mega corporations to ‘step up’ in the battle against climate change
Royal source outline Prince William’s grievances against ‘major companies’
Prince William has been on a whirlwind environmental tour of Brazil since earlier this month. Following a host of engagements to serve his cause, reports have now emerged about the Prince of Wales’ disappointment regarding the lack of support from large business corporations towards it.
Amid the ongoing trip, which saw the future monarch attend the Earthshot Prize Awards and COP30, a royal source has told The Times that William “believes that major companies are still not doing nearly enough.”
“He wants to see bold leadership in the private sector and, honestly, many businesses are still reluctant to get involved. Even when some are making genuine progress, they’re rarely talking about it,” the representative further added.
Though IKEA and Uber were noted as the few businesses which have contributed to some of the progress made for the health of environment, the heir apparent still feels that “far too many others are still falling short and it’s time for more of them to step up to the plate.”
It is of note that during a recent gathering in Rio de Janeiro, where William met with the capital’s young climate activists, he had said, “Where are the CEOs taking the lead with this? There is a nervousness. We have to get the confidence, we have to get the passion. Without that, we’re all wobbling around a little bit.”
Meanwhile, Prince William’s steadfast efforts regarding environmental causes is one he shares with — or perhaps, inherited from — his father, King Charles. The Prince of Wales recently spoke at the UN’s annual Climate Summit in Brazil as well, a platform where, previously in 2023, the King had delivered his remarks regarding the issues facing the Earth’s climate lately.
