Malin Akerman opens up on changing habits, setting boundaries

Malin Akerman has turned 40, and she reflected on how her age helps her in life.

While speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the Variety Power of Women event in Beverly Hills on October. 29, the 47-year-old Hunting Wives star described how age and experience helped her shed longtime people-pleasing habits and set firmer boundaries in both life and work.

“Being in my 40s makes me feel powerful,” Akerman told PEOPLE, adding that wisdom from years on set and in life has changed how she shows up.

“Growing up, I was such a people pleaser… I didn’t know how to set boundaries. Standing in my own power and knowing that I’m worth it has really been a great lesson.”

The Watchmen star advice for other women is to support each other. “Support your fellow ladies, because if you do, we can rule the whole freaking world, so, be an ally,” she said.

She also praised the impact of a positive inner circle, crediting cast and crew relationships for boosting her confidence.

Akerman recalled a vulnerable moment on the Hunting Wives set when she and costar Brittany Snow steadied one another before filming an intimate scene, a memory she calls “beautiful” and emblematic of the show’s supportive environment.
