Why Princess Beatrice’s latest outing is drawing unfavourable attention amid her return to public life
Princess Beatrice hosts afternoon tea at Riyadh’s Ritz-Carlton hotel
Princess Beatrice is gradually making her return to the public eye following her parents’ scandal and subsequent removal as working royals.
Since King Charles has permitted Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s firstborn to retain her royal title, the Princess of York has undertaken significant steps towards easing back into the spotlight, recently being appointed as the Deputy Patron of Outward Bound.
However, her latest appearance at Riyadh’s Ritz-Carlton hotel may have sparked some unwanted attention due to the event’s venue being “as notorious as it is opulent”, per the Daily Mail.
While the hotel invited guests to “Afternoon Tea” with the King’s niece, reports have noted that the Ritz-Carlton in Saudi Arabia’s capital is the same location where an anti-corruption committee, led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, performed the infamous crackdown of several prominent government officials, entrepreneurs, and royal members in 2017.
“But the hotel’s owners had done everything possible to banish such dark memories as they organised an altogether more genteel event last week, billed as ‘afternoon tea with Princess Beatrice of York,’” the Mail further noted.
Meanwhile, the Princess Beatrice-hosted event was called Future Investment Initiative, also attended by many other wealthy personalities. While her appearance has given rise to speculation that she could be “unofficially resuming her disgraced father’s old role as UK trade envoy”.
