Elon Musk faces major setback as Cybertruck boss quits amid recalls and lawsuits at Tesla
Cybertruck head's sudden exit marks fresh setback for Elon Musk as Tesla navigates several issues
The head of Tesla’s Cybertruck programme has stepped down after eight years, ending a turbulent chapter for the stainless-steel pickup just as Tesla, under Elon Musk’s ownership battles with safety issues and legal challenges.
Announced on X (formerly Twitter), his departure comes after months of declining sales momentum and mounting scrutiny around the vehicle’s reliability.
The executive, who rose from intern to programme lead, described leaving as “one of the hardest decisions” of his life.
His work spanned the Model 3, Gigafactory Shanghai, and the Cybertruck, all before turning 30.
The announcement comes shortly after shareholders reaffirmed CEO compensation plans, underscoring the company’s delicate balance between long-term vision and immediate operational strain.
The exit adds pressure following an October 30 recall impacting more than 6,000 Cybertrucks due to a faulty adhesive used on an exterior lightbar that could detach while driving.
Moreover, it follows lawsuits from Bay Area families alleging that malfunctioning door handles trapped teenagers in a deadly crash, alongside reports of exterior defects traced to factory issues rather than vandalism.
With quarterly Cybertruck deliveries slipping to roughly 5,000 units, the departure further complicates recovery efforts at a time when Musk is already managing multiple crises across Tesla.
