As the arrival of Stanger Things nears, newly emerging details add to the anticipation of the long-running Netflix series’ fifth and final season. And the latest revelation about it is a detail which has never been part of the show before.

Ross Duffer, the series director and co-creator, has shared that the final season of Stranger Things was filmed entirely on a set built to resemble Hawkins, the show’s fictional Indiana town — unlike the previous seasons, where outdoor filming was taken to Atlanta, Georgia.

“We needed downtown Hawkins to be destroyed by the rifts at the end of season 4, so we couldn’t just shoot in a real small town in Atlanta this season,” he told SFX magazine. “We obviously couldn’t destroy this poor small town and take it over for months. In order to build this destroyed area of downtown that the military has taken over, we had to build our stages.”

Describing the set as “the largest” that the production has ever constructed for the series, Duffer further stated that the characters also have “a new home base of operations” – “which is a radio station, which is a beautiful set.”

“There are some epic ones in later episodes. We built some huge sets, specifically on the horror side of things,” he added.

The Duffer Brothers-directed season five of Stranger Things is set to drop its first volume, comprising four episodes, on Netflix, November 26.
