Sydney Sweeney defends her new boxing biopic, Christy, after the poor performance at the box office.

The Euphoria star opened up after the underwhelming domestic debut of her new film, Christy, which earned just $1.3 million across 2,011 theaters over its opening weekend, ranking 11th at the box office, as per the PEOPLE.

She took to her Instagram and shared a heartfelt post, expressing immense pride in the project, calling it “one of the greatest honors” of her life.

The Anyone But You star praised director David for his work and the story of real-life boxer Christy Martin, highlighting the film’s themes of survival, courage, and hope.

“Through our campaigns, we’ve helped raise awareness for so many affected by domestic violence,” she wrote. “We all signed on to this film with the belief that Christy’s story could save lives.”

Sweeney emphasized that the movie’s impact extends beyond numbers. “We don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. And Christy has been the most impactful project of my life,” she added.

The actress thanked fans who watched, felt, and believed in the story, hoping it inspires women to take steps toward safety.
