King Charles hosts ‘extraordinary veterans’ on Armistice Day at Windsor
Former veterans are greeted and embraced by King Charles during Armistice Day celebrations
King Charles led the commemoration of the veterans who served in the Pacific territories during the second World War.
Joined by Queen Camilla, Prince William, Prince Edward, and Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, the King marked Armistice Day at Windsor Castle.
“This evening on Armistice Day, The King and Queen, joined by The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess of Gloucester, spent time with extraordinary veterans who served in the Second World War in the Pacific,” the royal family shared on Instagram.
The post’s caption further noted that this year “marked the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, which in effect brought World War 2 to an end.”
During the gathering, King Charles could be seen warmly embracing and chatting with many of the old veterans. He also happened to reunite with Yavar Abbas, a World War II veteran who memorably moved Queen Camilla to tears with his address at the 80th anniversary of VJ Day – Victory over Japan — back in August this year.
