Ruby Rose slams Sydney Sweeney after 'Christy' flops at box office
Sydney Sweeney defends the film’s message despite poor box office results
Ruby Rose has publicly criticised Sydney Sweeney, labeling her a “cr***n” and blaming her for the box office failure of Christy.
The recently released boxing biopic, starring Sweeney as legendary fighter Christy Martin, has struggled to draw audiences.
In a surprising post on Threads, Rose revealed that she was originally attached to the project, saying she had been set to portray Martin, whom she called “Cherry.”
The Meg actress expressed disappointment with how the film turned out, writing, “The original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life changing. I was attached to play Cherry.”
Rose added, “Everyone had experience with the core material. Most of us were actually gay. It’s part of why I stayed in acting. Losing roles happens all the time.”
However, she took issue with Sweeney’s response to the movie’s poor performance, stating, “For her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS [Sydney Sweeney] did it for the ‘people’. None of ‘the people’ want to see someone who hates them, parading around pretending to be us. You’re a cr***n, and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better.”
After fans called out her use of the crazy term, Rose clarified, “I regret writing that and should have just said psychopath.”
Her comments appeared to respond directly to the Anyone But You star’s Instagram post from Monday, where Sydney Sweeney defended the film’s intentions despite its disappointing $1.3 million domestic opening.
“If Christy gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety,” she wrote, adding, “then we will have succeeded… we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact.”
