Christy Martin comes to Sydney Sweeney's defense after Ruby Rose's remarks
Sydney Sweeney faced criticism after the release of the biopic 'Christy'
Christy Martin stood firm by Sydney Sweeney’s side following Ruby Rose’s harsh criticism of the Euphoria star’s portrayal of the boxer in the biopic Christy.
Just a day after Rose called the 28-year-old actress "a cretin" and claimed the actress “ruined the film", the former boxing legend took to Instagram to set the record straight and express her support for Sweeney.
“I’ve always been a fighter. My life reflected that in every way, and now I fight for others,” Martin wrote alongside a photo with Sweeney.
"The past few days I have seen some people attack my friend Sydney Sweeney. Syd not only worked her ass off for this film, she worked her ass off for me. For my story. For so many others suffering in silence. So I want to be clear about who Syd is. She is my friend and ally."
This message came after the poor opening at the box office under David Michôd's direction.
The movie's box-office debut ranked among the 12 worst openings for films on over 2,000 screens, according to Box Office Mojo.
Meanwhile, the Pitch Perfect 3 actress criticized the final version, alleging the film lost authenticity when Sweeney joined the cast.
“For her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS did it for the ‘people’, none of ‘the people’ want to see someone parading around pretending to be us. You’re a cretin, and you ruined the film. Period,” Rose wrote. “Christy deserved better.”
